Crimea 1854-56, 1 clasp, Sebastopol (Capt. R. D. Vaughton, 90th Foot) contemporary engraved naming, edge bruises and polished, otherwise nearly very fine £140-180

Robert Dymock Vaughton joined the 90th Regiment as Ensign in July 1847. He was promoted to Lieutenant in December 1850 and to Captain in December 1854. He served with the 90th in the Crimea and, on 22 March 1855, he led an attack with a small fatigue party against some Russians who had taken the French mortar battery in front of Mamelon at Sebastopol. After a heavy musketry exchange, he led his small band of men in a bayonet charge which caused the Russians to retreat (to a “Hurrah”). He received a severe contusion. (Ref. Records of the 90th) Captain Vaughton retired in 1855.
