Robert Shirreff was born on 19 November 1803, son of David Shirreff of Kinmylies, Inverness. He was appointed Ensign in May 1824; Lieutenant, April 1827; Captain, January 1836; Brevet Major, December 1842. He died at Covellum on 9 May 1850.
