Military General Service 1793-1814, 2 clasps, Busaco, Ciudad Rodrigo (John Appleby, 40th Foot) edge bruise, otherwise good very fine £500-600

John Appleby was born in North Curry, near Taunton, Somerset, and enlisted into the 40th Foot in August 1808. He served in the Peninsula but was discharged in June 1813 in consequence of ‘Amputated left thigh at Badajoz, 6 April 1813.’ Appleby was admitted to the Chelsea Hospital on the 14th June on a pension of one shilling a day. Sold with copies of discharge papers and Chelsea Hospital Register.
