German States Forces, a very rare other ranks wooden water bottle c1800-1815, the near circular flask being approximately 15cm x 14cm and with a depth of approximately 7.5cm; double ‘bracket’ style stand and with raised neck base to the shaped filler, the conical shaped over-stopper with waisted and near circular knop; the front of the body originally decorated with quite ornate leaf and scroll work enclosing a circular panel bearing the double headed eagle, this with single crown and a shield of arms on the breast; the rear of the body decorated with further scroll and geometric patterns, the front of the body with evidence of two repairs, the great majority of the original paint work lacking, the baluster neck area with two chips, the over-stopper whole but with a double split reaching to the base of the knop £350-450

Note: illustrations of this type of water bottle can be seen in Richard Warner’s ‘Napoleon’s Enemies’. A truly remarkable survival from this early period.
