Officer’s plaid brooch, possibly pertaining to the 21st Aberdeenshire (Marquis of Huntly’s Aboyne Highland) Rifle Volunteers, in very good quality silver plate the quoit has a raised beaded rim and an applied wreath of ivy leaves, over the voided centre a stag’s head cabossed mount, stout pin back, one of the mount‘s three thread and nut fasteners missing, otherwise excellent condition £300-400

The 21st Aberdeenshire Rifle Volunteers were raised 22 November 1861 and placed in the 1st Administrative Battalion, in 1876 upon relocation they were transferred into the 1st Administrative Battalion, Kincardineshire Rifle Volunteers eventually forming part of the 5th (Deeside Highland) Volunteer Battalion, The Gordon Highlanders.
