Provenance: Bt R. Margolis August 1985.

The Cercle des Philadelphes was a philanthropic society with interests in the arts, literature and sciences and of which Benjamin Franklin became a member. In its early days it was responsible for the study of anthrax of which there had been several epidemics. Further details are published in Spink’s
