United Kingdom, British Colonies and unspecified British-made Anti-Slavery Medals, Baptist Mission Celebrated, 1842, a copper medal by J. Davis, bust of William Carey three-quarters right, wearing frock coat, rev. expect great things of god, etc, 44mm (BHM 2027; E 1361). Good very fine £150-200

Provenance: Bt Format 1987.

Roehrs kept the medal under Jamaica on account of the reverse legend. William Carey (1761-1834) who had no connection with the West Indies, was a Baptist missionary to India for 41 years where he translated the bible and taught at Fort William College. He was never to return to England
