ICI was founded in December 1926 by way of the merger of four companies, Brunner Mond & Co Ltd of Northwich, Cheshire, Nobel’s Explosives Co Ltd, based at Ardeer, Ayrshire, the United Alkali Co Ltd of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and the British Dyestuffs Corporation of Blackley, Manchester.
