Architecture, Institute of British Architects, Honorary Medal, 1834, a silver award by B. Wyon, façade of the temple of Theseus, rev. legend in wreath, named (To William H. Bidlake, BA, for Measured Drawings of St Mary’s Church, Leicester, 1883), 57mm (E 1280; Taylor 24a). Brightly cleaned and with a couple of rim nicks, otherwise extremely fine £70-90

William Henry Bidlake (1861-1938), a leading figure in the Arts and Crafts movement in Birmingham; b. Wolverhampton; educ. Tettenhall College and Christ’s College, Cambridge; RA Schools, 1882; RIBA Pugin Travelling Fellow, 1885; set up in independent practice, Birmingham, 1887; pioneered the teaching of architecture at Birmingham School of Art, 1893 and director of the School of Architecture, 1919-24.
