John Duncan was born in and enlisted at Aberdeen. Serving with the 1st Battalion Highland Light Infantry, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 30 November 1914. He was killed in action near Festubert on 19 December 1914 and was buried in the Cabaret-Rouge,British Cemetery, Souchez. With copied m.i.c. showing entitlement to the 1914-15 Star.
