Frank George Kingett was born in London in April 1919 and originally enlisted in the East Surreys (Territorials) as a boy recruit in April 1936. Transferring to the 42nd Royal Tank Regiment in November 1938, he was embarked for the Middle East as an Acting Sergeant in April 1941, and would have seen plenty of action prior to his transfer to the Raiding Support Regiment in the summer of 1943.

The Raiding Support Regiment, whose personnel wore beige berets and, as qualified parachutists, S.A.S. Wings, saw extensive action in the Dalmatian Islands, Yugoslavia, Greece and Albania, serving in support of the partisans as well as British special forces. In June 1944, when operating in the Adriatic, the regiment came under the control of Force 266, while those elements of the regiment employed in the mountains of Greece came under the aupices of Force 133.

Placed on the Reserve in June 1946, Kingett re-enlisted in the Territorials in May 1947 and was finally discharged in April 1949.
