France, Foundation Stone of the Pont Alexandre III, Paris, Laid, 1896, a silver medal by J.-B. Daniel-Dupuis, three standing female figures, head of Alexander III of Russia above, backdrop of Paris behind, reverse semi-naked female holding pot from which water flows, cherub with scroll at side, legend below, 70mm (PBE 310; BDM I, 662; Gaz. Num. 1898, p.22, 55; cf. DNW 38, 727 and 42, 1435). Very fine, rare in silver (£80-100)

The ceremony was performed by Czar Nicholas II, the Czarina Alexandra and Felix Faure, president of the Third Republic, on 7 October 1896. The bridge was opened in 1900
