A military B.E.M. awarded to Driver John W. F. Graver, Royal Army Service Corps

British Empire Medal, (Military) G.VI.R., 1st issue (T/14610991 Dvr., R.A.S.C.) nearly extremely fine £140-180

Driver John William Frederick Graver, H.Q. R.A.S.C., 3 Petroleum Installations, 2nd Army Troops. Awarded the B.E.M.

Recommendation reads: ‘In the course of his duties as special DR, Dvr. Graver has rendered service, greatly in excess of the normal range of his duties, which has required unusual mental application and, very frequently, extreme physical endurance when line and wireless communication were unavailable or failed. During the phases of operations leading up to the Maas crossing, between the rivers Maas and Rhine and finally up to 14 Army Roadhead, POL communications operationally essential to S & T Second Army were maintained by DR over very long distances. Due to the low establishment of DRs this work fell very largely on Dvr. Graver who always responded cheerfully and efficiently, obtaining very little sleep, but always getting through to schedule under the most difficult circumstances.’

With copied recommendation.
