1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45, contact marks, very fine or better (4) £150-200

O’Connor commenced training in Singapores of No. 240 Squadron in March 1939, attended a gunnery course at No. 4 A.O.S. that summer and first flew operationally in one of the unit’s newly delivered Saro London IIs in September, the commencement of a typically long Coastal Command engagement which encompassed moves to Calshot, Invergordon, Sullum Voe and Stranraer prior to him being rested in July 1940. In the interim he flew in excess of 80 operational sorties, the majority of them over the North Sea and most of them of an anti-U-boat or convoy escort nature.

Sold with the recipient’s original R.A.F. Observer’s and Air Gunner’s Flying Log Book, covering the period March 1939 to July 1940, and a small cut-out wartime photograph of the recipient and a fellow member of crew.
