Four: Able Seaman G. H. Wright, Royal Navy

1914-15 Star (239250 G. H. Wright, A.B. R.N.); British War and Victory Medals (239250 G. H. Wright, A.B. R.N.); Russian Cross of St George, 4th class, the reverse numbered ‘870 171’, very fine (4) £250-300

George Hopewell Wright was born at Ilkeston, Derby, on 22 August 1891, and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on 18 August 1907. He served as an Able Seaman aboard H.M.S. Marlborough from June 1914 to November 1920, and possibly received his Russian Cross of St George for service at the battle of Jutland but this award is not confirmed on his service record, a copy of which accompanies the lot. Also sold with a small portrait photograph believed to be of the recipient.
