Archibald Rodney Hayes was born at Ryde, Isle of Wight, on 11 June 1882, and joined the Royal Navy as a Stoker on 25 March 1902. Working his way steadily through the rates of the stoker branch, he was appointed Acting Mechanician in January 1915 and Mechanician in January 1916. He received his L.S. & G.C. medal in April 1917 whilst serving in H.M.S. Castor, passed for Acting Chief Mechanician in March 1921, and was discharged to shore on 7 June 1922. Sold with copied record of service.
