Frederick Robert Francis was born in Malvern, Worcestershire on 17 April 1891. A Baker’s Assistant by occupation, he enlisted into the Royal Marines Light Infantry at Birmingham on 17 April 1911. During the Great War he served on the armoured cruiser Endymion, March 1913-November 1914 and the armed merchant cruisers Carribean, December 1914-June 1915 (foundered 26 September 1915), and Victorian, June 1915-October 1917. Awarded the Royal Navy L.S. & G.C. in 1925. Discharged in 1931 on completion of his second period of engagement. With copied service paper.
