Corporal Patrick O’Shaughnessy was severely wounded at Bareilly on 6 May 1858.

In this action Private Valentine Bambrick, 1/60th, was awarded the Victoria Cross when he ‘showed conspicuous bravery when, in a serai, he was attacked by three Ghazees, one of whom he cut down. He was wounded twice on this occasion.’ Apart from Bambrick and O’Shaughnessy, the only other casualties in the 1/60th at Bareilly were Sergeant Henry Bailey, killed, and Private Henry Lane, wounded.

O’Shaughnessy was promoted to Sergeant on 9 January 1858. Sold with research notes.
