Defence of Jellalabad 1842, Flying Victory (S. Mulligan, 13th Foot) naming impressed in small serif capitals, fitted with replacement scroll suspension, no longer swivels, edge bruising and contact marks, otherwise nearly very fine £1000-1200

Stephen Mulligan was born in the Parish of St Andrews, Dublin, and attested there for the 13th Light Infantry on 31 March 1840, aged 19 years. He served abroad in the East Indies for 6 years 1 month, at Gibraltar for 4 years 4 months, in the Crimea for 11 months, and at the Cape of Good Hope for 1 year. He was discharged at Fermoy on 25 April 1861, having completed 21 years actual service. Sold with copied discharge papers which state: ‘He is in possession of 4 good conduct badges with pay. He has received 5 medals and one clasp (for Sebastopol) Viz for the defence of Jellalabad, for the occupation of Cabul, a Crimea medal, a Turkish Crimea medal and a medal for the suppression of the Mutiny in India 1857-1858’. The regimental medal rolls confirm that No. 1384 Private Stephen Mulligan exchanged his Mural Crown issue for the new Flying Victory issue in 1858.
