Provenance: S.H. Hamer Collection, Glendining Auction, 26-8 November 1930, lot 330 (part); F.S. Cokayne Collection; Baldwin Auction 24, 9-10 October 2000, lot 1140; bt J.A. Bobbe October 2000.

The rarest of all the Globe series pennies; missing from all the important token collections dispersed by auction since Hamer in 1930. The state of the obverse die would seem to suggest that Skidmore’s Clerkenwell series were struck before his 1797-dated Globe series
