France, First World One, uniface bronze plaquette by Albert Pommier, elderly French soldier standing facing left, holding wine skins from his shoulder, 133 x 61mm. Almost extremely fine, rare (£60-70)

Albert Pommier is given a brief entry in Forrer (vol. viii, suppl., p. 143), who notes the exhibition of a number of medals and plaquettes at the Paris Salon, 1912. The present plaquette is an excellent study, softly modelled and full of pathos. Clearly he was a clever medallist, but, sadly, not prolific. His work is little known.
