Lieut. John Finemore, RN, b. 19 Aug. 1789; entered the service on 1 Jan. 1804 as a first class volunteer on the Minotaur; present at the Battle of Trafalgar, 1805 (Naval GS medal with clasp); midshipman on the expedition to Copenhagen, 1807; from 1808-14 served on various flagships in the Mediterranean; in 1815 and 1816 his duties took him to Canada and the East Indies; served in the Coast Blockade in the later 1820s and from 1834 to 1855 commanded a station in the Coast Guard. A copy of his service discharge paper and an extract from O’Byrne’s Naval Dictionary, p.357, is sold with the lot
