Akerman, J.Y., Tradesmen’s Tokens Current in London and its Vicinity Between the Years 1648 and 1672. Described from the originals in the British Museum, and in several private collections. Large paper 1st edn, London, John Russell Smith, 1849. 8vo, dark green three-quarter morocco, back heavily gilt. Title printed in black only, prelims in right order, 8 plates of tokens, viii, viii (lacking i-iv as usual), 257pp, 2pp advertisements. Annotated throughout and extra-illustrated with manuscript notes and contemporary newspaper cuttings tipped in. J.H. Burn’s copy with his signature, letter from Benjamin Nightingale to Robert Boyne (father of William) inviting Boyne to be a subscriber and describing Akerman’s plans for the book and Akerman’s financial status tipped in. No list of subscribers was published. Very rare (Manville 362). £400-500
