Estimate: £400–£500

Stephen (1135-1154), Penny, Cross Moline type, uncertain mint, possibly Stamford, Lefsi (?), cross potent on King’s shoulder, 1.06g/2h (cf. Mack 151-2; cf. N 926; cf. S 1285). Legends completely flat, otherwise about very fine, probably much as struck £400-500

The portrait seems to be from the same distinctive punches as Mack 152, a type later defaced by a cancellation bar across the sceptre (M 151). Although a certain mint attribution is impossible, the coin forms part of the enigmatic group of Cross Moline variants struck in Lincolnshire and the East Midlands
