D.C.M. London Gazette 26 June 1918: ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during an enemy attack. Though the enemy penetrated into the support line behind him, he maintained his position in the front line trench under intense fire, and used his Lewis gun with great effect. He displayed magnificent courage and leadership.’
