The Order of the British Empire, M.B.E. (Military) 1st type; China 1900, no clasp (Ord., H.M.S. Goliath); 1914-15 Star Trio (Gnr., R.N.); Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., G.V.R., 1st issue (191491 P.O. H.M.S. Vernon) together with related miniature medals, the BWM with nine clasps, Narrow Seas 1914, Home Seas 1914, Narrow Seas 1915, North Sea 1915, Narrow Seas 1916, North Sea 1916, Home Seas 1916, Narrow Seas 1917, and North Sea 1918, nearly very fine or better (12) £180-220

M.B.E. London Gazette 27 June 1919: Gunner (T) Sydney Herbert Jones, R.N. For valuable services in the Harwich Force.’

Sydney Herbert Jones was born in Bow, London, on 7 November 1880, and joined the Royal Navy on 7 November 1898. He was commissioned as Gunner in October 1914 and during the war served, amongst others, H.M. ships
Lance, Surprise, Petard, Prince George, and Somme. He was sentenced by Court Martial on 18 August 1920 to forfeit 1 year’s seniority, to be dismissed his Ship and to be severely reprimanded for deserting his ship when on duty as Officer of the Watch and other charges. As a consequence he was allowed to ‘retire’ from the service. Sold with copy service papers and other details.
