Knight Bachelor’s Badge, 2nd type breast badge, silver-gilt and enamels, in case of issue; The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, C.B.E. (Civil) neck badge, silver-gilt and enamels, in case of issue; British War and Victory Medals (2/Lieut. A. J. Kelly, R.A.F.), extremely fine (4) £500-550

Arthur John Kelly was born on 17 November 1898 and educated at Bridgenorth, Shropshire. He served with No. 12 Squadron Royal Flying Corps during the Great War and in the R.A.F. with the Army of Occupation in Germany. He was appointed Temporary Assistant in the Ministry of Labour, Whitehall, 1919; Assistant Principal, Ministry of Labour, Northern Ireland, 1922; Principal, Cabinet Offices, Northern Ireland, 1940; Assistant Secretary, 1941; seconded as Northern Ireland Government Liaison Officer at the Home Office, Whitehall, 1943; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour, Northern Ireland, 1956; and Secretary to the Cabinet and Clerk of the Privy Council of Northern Ireland, 1957 until his retirement in 1963. He lived in Malone Road, Belfast, and died on 27 May 1983.
