D.C.M. London Gazette 20 October 1916: ‘For conspicuous gallantry during operations. When the enemy counter-attacked our newly captured position he did fine and gallant work with his machine gun. After his gun was hit he took some bombs and went forward to help the bombers. His example greatly encouraged the men round him, and the enemy’s attack was repulsed.’

Bertie Charles Bragg was born in Halstead, Essex, and enlisted at Chelsmford. He went to France with the 9th Battalion on 30 May 1915, and died of wounds on 17 July 1917.
