Sergeant C. A. C. Plowden was wounded at Paardeberg on 10 March 1900, and died of his wounds on 2 May 1900. He is commemorated on the memorial to the Essex Regiment in Warley Garrison Church, and also on a memorial in the Chapel at Bedford Grammar School where he was educated.
