The 56th West Essex Regiment, an extremely fine and rare officer’s copper gilt and silver blue cloth helmet plate to the 56th West Essex Regiment, 1878-1881, a gilt QVC back plate with wide laurel gilt overlay enclosing a circular strap, ‘MONTIS INSIGNIA CALPE’, centrally on a black velvet background the Castle and dependent Key in silver, at the base of the laurels in silver a scroll ‘GIBRALTAR’, at the top of the laurels a silver floreate scroll ‘MORO’, on the reverse two of the three fastening loops are missing, otherwise mint state £300-400
