Great War Memorial Plaque (James Musgrave Cross) extremely fine £20-25

Sergeant James Musgrave Cross, D.C.M., 1/4th battalion, King’s Own (Royal Lancaster) Regiment, was killed in action, France & Flanders, on 20 September 1917. He was awarded the D.C.M. London Gazette 22 October 1917, citation 26 January 1918: ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in attacking single-handed an enemy strong point and capturing it, together with five prisoners. On reaching the objective, when all his officers had become casualties, he took charge and carried on with great energy and skill, collecting stragglers from other units and covering the retirement of the battalion on his flank.’ He is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial to the Missing at Zonnebeke, Belgium.
