Medals Commemorating the Battle of Jutland (2), in gold, 22mm, obverse two crossed staves displaying the White Ensign and Union flag attached to an upright trident decorated with a shield, inscribed ’31 May 1916’, anchor below ‘to the memory of those who fell that day’, reverse inscribed within wreath ‘May 31 1916 The German fleet attacked off the coast of Jutland and driven back into port with heavy loss. Admiral Sir John Jellicoe Commander in Chief, Vice Admiral Sir David Beatty commanding battle cruiser fleet’; together with an identical medal, in silver, the first polished, nearly very fine, the second nearly extremely fine (2) £60-80

These commemorative medals were designed by Prince Louis of Battenberg and sold in aid of naval orphanages. ( Ref. Eimer 1951)
