Mary Louise Potter was born on 25 July 1868, and educated at College House, London. She began her nursing career at Paddington Infirmary 1891-94; Extra Nurse, Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh, May 1894 to September 1895; Sister, Poplar & Stepney Sick Asylum 1896-97; Probationer and Head Nurse, Guy’s Hospital 1897 to August 1900; Night Superintendent, Leith Public Health Hospital September 1900 to March 1901; Army Nursing Service Reserve, in South Africa and at Home, from March 1901.
