France, Royal Visit to France, 1911, a charming silver plaquette by René Grégoire, Marianne enthusiastically embracing crowned female figure, presumably Alexandria, pedestal inscribed pax behind, entente cordiale on panel below, reverse scroll inscribed “Le Siecle” stamped below “e. a. brotherton”, matt finish, 60 x 46mm (cf. BDM [suppl.] VII, p. 394). Extremely fine (£60-80)

“To commemorate the King Edward’s visit to Paris in 1903 and subsequent improved relations between France and England, this artist executed a very pretty plaquette, Entente cordiale, which is reproduced in the Magazine of Art for March, 1904.” Forrer, p. 394.
