B.E.M. London Gazette 25 June 1948.

Recommendation states ‘Leading Aircraftman Bowes has been the supervisor, leader and key worker of a gang of Arab workmen employed in carrying out the complete doping, finishing and marking of some 130 aircraft that have passed through 160 Maintenance Unit during the last 18 months. As a result of the ability, resource and tact which this airman displayed, the task was carried out speedily and efficiently. The standard of work has improved progressively and owing to the initial unskilled ability of his staff, this effort is considered highly commendable. The qualities of tact and leadership displayed by this airman enabled the Royal Air Force to take full advantage of locally employed labour at a time when the service was desperately short of Royal Air Force tradesman. Leading Aircraftsman Bowes work has been outstanding.’
