D.C.M. London Gazette 5 August 1915. ‘For gallant conduct and coolness on the 22nd October 1914, at Ypres, when he conveyed a message to a company of his battalion, which was practically cut off. The delivery of this message was most important, and he had to pass over very open ground under heavy shell and rifle fire. Although held up for a time by the severity of the fire, he succeeded in delivering the message and in returning with the answer.’ Sold with copy of the battalion War Diary for 18-24 October 1914.
