Rifleman Robert James Ward, 8th (Post Office Rifles) Battalion, London Regiment, lived in Clapham Junction and enlisted in London. He was killed in action France and Flanders 25 May 1915. It was during this action at Festubert that Corporal Keyworth, 24th London Regiment won his Victoria Cross. The following day the remnants, just 300 of the 900 Post Office Riflemen who had entered the trenches sixteen days earlier, were sent into reserve.
