Robert Stanwix Robertson was first commissioned in February 1854. He served in the Sonthal campaign of 1855-56. In the Indian Mutiny he served with the Sikhs in the Force under Major Vincent Eyre, of Cabul fame, in the Shahabad District in August 1857. He was present at the capture of Jugdespore, and with the Goorkha Force at the siege and capture of Lucknow. He also served with Sir E. Lugard’s Force in the Shahabad District in 1858 (Medal and clasp). Robertson next served in the Cossyah and Jynteah Hills in 1862-63 at the assault and capture of the stockades of Ocmkoi, Nungbarai, Oomkung, and Surteong (severely wounded). He subsequently served with the Bhootan Expedition in 1865 (Medal with clasp), and in the Afghan War in 1879-80 (Medal). Robertson retired with the rank of Major General in November 1886.
