Captain Angus Menzies died at Paardeplaats on 22 January, 1902, of wounds received in action the previous day. He was born in May 1871 and entered his regiment in November 1890, being promoted Lieutenant in July 1893, and Captain in February 1898. He saw service with the 2nd battalion in the Miranzai expedition of 1891. Captain Menzies served throughout the South African war with the 1st battalion, with which he was present throughout the siege of Ladysmith, including the action at Wagon Hill on the 6th January, 1900, when he was slightly wounded. He was afterwards Commandant at Wit Klip and was mentioned in despatches London Gazette 10 September 1901.
