Military Cross, G.V.R., the reverse neatly inscribed ‘Lieut R. A. Harding, R.E.’, in its case of issue together with a superb archive of original documentation including: a) a number of published pictures of Harding with King George V whilst inspecting trenches on the Western Front; b) commission document, 16 October 1915; c) MID certificate; d) Army riding certificate, 10 January 1916; e) illuminated page from the London Gazette announcing award of M.C.; f) letter from Harding to his mother, dated 1 April 1918, graphically describing the fighting of the previous few days during the ‘German Spring Offensive’; g) various other papers and photographs, extremely fine (Lot) £200-250

M.C. London Gazette 16 September 1918. ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This officer took part in a counter attack when the left flank of the Division was exposed, leading his section and other troops with great dash. He did extremely good work throughout ten days fighting, re-organising scattered troops and by his unfailing cheerfulness setting a fine example to all.’
