Waterloo 1815 (Hugh M’Lennan, 1st Batt. 79th Reg. Foot) fitted with straight silver bar suspender, the ‘a’ of surname corrected from an ‘o’ and several letters retouched, contact marks, therefore fine £600-700

Hugh McLennan was born in Inverness in 1791 and enlisted there into the 2nd battalion 79th Regiment in June 1808. He transfered to the 1st battalion in May 1809 and served with them in Spain, Portugal and France. He was wounded in the head at Toulouse and severely in the neck at Waterloo. The Surgeon’s statement says that both wounds were caused by musket balls and that his neck wound was received at Quatre Bras on 16th June. He was discharged to Kilmainham Hospital in September 1821. Sold with full research including copy service papers.
