Naval General Service 1793-1840, 3 clasps, 1 June 1794, St Vincent, Trafalgar (John Lake) good very fine £1500-1800

John Lake is confirmed as Landsman aboard Culloden at the Glorious First of June, as Purser’s Steward aboard the same ship at the battle of St Vincent, and in the same rank aboard Neptune at the battle of Trafalgar. He was born in Exeter and, at the time of volunteering his services there for the navy, gave his year of birth as 1771. During the course of his naval career he changed his mind as to his age, a not uncommon practise, subsequently giving the years 1774 and 1775 to various Muster Clerks. Lake was finally Paid Off from Neptuneat Portsmouth on the 5th December, 1806. Sold with full career details.
