A Great War O.B.E. group of three awarded to Lieutenant-Colonel Percy William Williams-Till, Durham Light Infantry

Percy William Williams-Till served in the Boer War in the Cape Colonial Forces as a Lieutenant in Prince Alfred’s Volunteer Guards, 1900-02, for which service he was awarded the Queen’s medal with clasp for ‘Cape Colony’. Commissioned a Temporary Major in the 10th Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment in November 1914, he was promoted to Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel of the 5th Battalion Durham Light Infantry in February 1916. He was confirmed in that rank in February 1916. In command of the 2/5th Battalion Durham Light Infantry, he served in Macedonia, Serbia, Bulgaria, European Turkey and Aegean Islands, 16 November 1916-25 January 1918 and 9-11 November 1918, and in Russia from 11 February 1919. For his services he was twice mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 21 July 1917 and 11 June 1920) and awarded the O.B.E. (London Gazette 12 December 1919). With copied m.i.c. and other research.
