William Fleetwood was born in Liverpool in 1857. A Joiner by occupation, he enlisted into the Royal Marines Artillery at Liverpool on 18 November 1875. Serving on the Alexandra during March 1879-January 1883, he was promoted to Corporal in April 1881 and he saw action at Alexandria on 11 July 1882. He was promoted to Sergeant when serving on the Woodlark in December 1885. With copied service paper.
