Hugh Baird was born at Lesmahagow, near Lanark, Scotland. Serving with the 10th Battalion Canadian Infantry (Alberta Regiment), he died of disease, 4 July 1918, aged 34 years. He was buried in Lesmahagow Cemetery. He was the son of James and Susan Brown Baird of Manse Cottage, Lesmahagow.
