Josiah enlisted in the British South Africa Police in March 1945, was awarded his Colonial Police Forces L.S. & G.C. in November 1963 and retired in December 1974. He was also entitled to the Rhodesia General Service Medal, in addition to his Rhodesian Police L.S. & G.C., which was awarded to him in February 1972.
