Seven: Sergeant H. G. Auton, 1st Armoured Regiment, Australian Military Forces, late Royal Navy and Royal Air Force

1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star; Burma Star, clasp, Pacific; Defence and War Medals; Vietnam Service Medal 1964 (13959 H. G. Auton); South Vietnam Campaign Star, with clasp ‘1960-’, named as before, mounted as worn with an Africa Star to which he does not appear to be entitled, together with Royal Air Force Certificate of Service and Commonwealth of Australia Certificate of Discharge, good very fine and a most unusual group to a man who served in all three services (8) £250-300

Henry George Auton was born on 6 June 1947, and served with the Royal Navy as Naval Airman 1st Class, from 22 March 1943 to 26 June 1946. He re-enlisted into the Royal Air Force on 25 September 1947, his civil occupation being given as Male Nurse. In the R.A.F. he qualified as a Boat Wright and Carpenter II. On disharge in March 1952, his duties were described as ‘Repairs marine craft, wooden floats and hulls of aircraft; undertakes general carpentry and joinery work.’ He enlisted in the Australian Regular Army at Brisbane on 3 November 1955 and served overseas in Vietnam with the 1st Royal Australian Regiment and the 1st Armoured Regiment from 27 March 1968 to 7 January 1969. During his Australian service he qualified as a Driver and Medical Assistant, and was finally discharged at Sydney on 4 November 1970. He died on 21 July 1975.
