These two men were both born in Barony, Glasgow, and enlisted at Glasgow for the 2nd Battalion, Scottish Rifles. They were both killed in action on the 10th of March 1915, the opening day of the battle of Neuve Chapelle in which the battalion was virtually wiped out. They are both commemorated by name on Le Touret Memorial, Panel 15 and 16, at Pas de Calais, France.
