A Great War period portrait miniature attributed to Major H. H. Bromfield, D.S.O., Welsh Guards, formerly South Wales Borderers, hand painted on ivory, sitter in uniform, wearing Welsh Guards cap badge and medal ribbons for D.S.O., Q.S.A. and K.S.A., in brass-gilt oval glazed frame, 9.5cm by 8cm, very good condition and an attractive piece £180-220

Major Harry Hickman Bromfield was born at Snitterfield, Warwickshire in January 1869 and educated at Malvern College, Oxford. He served in the South African War with the South Wales Borderers (D.S.O. and Despatches twice). After the Boer War Bromfield served as Chief Constable of Radnorshire, being commissioned into the 1st Battalion, Welsh Guards during the Great War. He was killed in action France and Flanders 10 September 1916 and is commemorated on the Theipval Memorial.
