24th (Warwickshire) Regiment, a most important Georgian officer’s shoulder belt plate, the rectangular silver-gilt back plate with rounded corners is hallmarked Birmingham 1823-24, maker’s mark ‘H.S.’, the plate overlaid with faceted silver star with corresponding copper-gilt slip behind, with further copper-gilt mounts, centrally the Sphinx and ‘Egypt’ over ‘24’ with regimental title on garter around, crown above within wreath and radiating scrolls with battle honours ‘Peninsula’, ‘Talavera’, ‘Fuentes D’Onor’, ‘Pyrenees’, ‘Orthes’, ‘Cape of Good Hope’, ‘Nivelle’, ‘Salamanca’, and ‘Vittoria’, two hooks and two studs to the reverse and retaining original chamois leather liner, the plate retaining full gilt, slightly bruised on one lower corner and some light wear to gilt mounts, otherwise in excellent condition and extremely rare £600-800

Unrecorded by Parkyn and no similar plate held by the regimental museum. It is interesting to note that the battle honours ‘Cape of Good Hope’, ‘Nivelle’, ‘Salamanca’, and ‘Vittoria’ were not authorised until June and September 1824.
